I've Been That Mom

Firstly, let me reiterate: the photos of Poetry in People are not posted for their technical excellence. What's important here is not composition or framing or lighting. What's important is the PEOPLE and the MOMENT. So sometimes because I'm stealthy chasing a family down a park path to capture a moment, it turns out blurry. Oh well. The moment is there.
And so with this beautiful family finding some time in the late evening hours to enjoy a local park, teaching their son how to ride his bike. (When I spoke to them later, they told me their son had never risen a two-wheeled before; this evening was his very first time. Their pride was a palpable energy as we spoke. And it was a moment that so many of us have lived - either as parents or the child, ourselves - the first unassisted bike ride - so universal in its eexpression.
The mom would run well ahead to position herself with her phone to catch the magical moment on video. The dad ran alongside, ready to put a steadying hand on his boy's shoulder. When they past the mom, this repeated; she'd run ahead again.
These are the magical moments of childhood; memories of summertime that cement themselves with permanence. And we get it. We all get it.
